Would it be possible in Europe to plant a forest three times the size of France? Or take off the roads 6 million cars for 14 years? Maybe not really realistic. Instead the same impact on reducing CO2 emissions could be accomplished by building energy efficiently.

How can we prevent it?

By signing the Kyoto Protocol, European Union Member States have agreed to reduce their CO2 emissions by 8 percent until 2010 in order to combat climate change. Achieving the EU's Kyoto target will be difficult. But making further cuts after 2010 is going to be even more challenging.
